Tree of the Month - April

Frequently, remarkable trees can be found by chance in out-of-the-way places. This weeping willow, spotted by chance in a rural spot the Stour Valley Way west of Ashford, Kent, becomes a new champion for the now rare variety Salix x sepulcralis 'Salamonii', with a girth of 412 cm. Planted within an outlying part of the Godinton estate, renowned for its ancient parkland trees, it also becomes a Veteran Tree in its own right, its holes and hollows home to wildlife of all sorts.
