Tree of the Month – March

Every year, our changing climate, combined with the imagination and enthusiasm of thousands of gardeners up and down Britain and Ireland, means that dozens of new species have started growing well enough to count as Champion Trees for the first time.

Indian Soapberry (Sapindus mukorossi) is a species which wasn’t on the Tree Register at all until 2025. Grown by member David Ewins in a privileged spot in his garden near Bath, under the south-facing wall of the house, this purchase from Pan-global Plants has done so unexpectedly well that David may soon be forced to choose between his tree and his home, though I’m not sure which he will opt to keep….
