Tree of the Month October

Britain and Ireland's tallest known native conifer is invariably a Scots Pine (Pinus sylvestris), but the title has changed hands four times in the last decade. The newest champion is a tree 42.2m tall (just left of centre in the photograph) which was found by Rob Lynley in Beck Dale, one of many previously unstudied afforested valleys running south-east from the North York Moors.
